JEHANGIR NICHOLSON ART FOUNDATION
Jyoti Bhatt may be considered a visual linguist, juggling a vast vocabulary of imagery, juxtaposing image and text, often evoking humour and satire. 'The Looking Glass' explores Bhatt's reflections on the self, society, popular culture, living traditions and lived realities.
Bringing together printmaking, photography, painting, experimental processes and archival material, the exhibition spans over 70 years of the 92-year-old artist's practice. The exhibition traces how images, ideas and experimentation move across diverse media.
A student from the first batch of the Baroda art school and later teacher, the exhibition situates the artist within the lineages of Indian art history which he emerged from and helped shape.
