A Forest in the City
26 Apr 2024 - 17 Jul 2024

Presenting the forest as it is variedly imagined, represented and lived. It is a collaborative show, bringing in ideas, objects and works by those interested in the relationship between the forest and the city, including architects, artists, community members, activists and archivists.

The project is the outcome of a three-year research project by the Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute of Architecture and Environmental Studies on the Sanjay Gandhi National Park / Aarey Colony in Mumbai.

The forest in the city is a space that is constantly being reconfigured by practices. It is ‘made’ by different and often competing regimes of representation. These take the form of objects that range from maps, policy documents, cultural objects, and more. At the museum, the exhibition hopes to strike a dialogue between these objects, and those in the museum, to explore the relationship between objects and culture, narrative and meaning, alongwith the categorisation of ‘folk’, ‘tribal’ and ‘contemporary’ art.
