Rethinking the Regional

A sweeping view of modern India art of the post independence period reveals that most leading names in the field of art hail from small, non descript places and have modest beginnings. Nonetheless their roots have placed a vital role in shaping the Indian art world. The exhibition features artists and artworks from 1940s until the present day spread across Maharashtra including Kolhapur,Nasik, Pune, Nagpur. The exhibition was curated by Dr. Manisha Patil and covers issues such as styles, pedagogy, art schools, patronage and regional literature.

The Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation loaned one landscape by Kohlapur based artist Sharad Waykool.
