JEHANGIR NICHOLSON ART FOUNDATION
The talk celebrates the 125th year since the Ravi Varma Fine Art Lithographic Press was established in Girgaum, in 1893. It came out with its first oleograph The Birth of Sakoontala,in the following year. The oleographs from the Press had a tremendous impact on the social norms, religious ideologies and aesthetic notions of the country. Ganesh Shivaswamy tells us about how they influenced many aspects of Indian life including cinema, comic culture, contemporary art, advertising and popular culture and immortalized Ravi Varma in the minds of the common man.
