Dinesh Kurekar

Dinesh Kurekar was born in 1952 in Nagpur. He graduated with a Diploma in Textile Design (Weaving) in 1975 from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai.

Kurekar’s early works were done in oil and acrylic. He took a great interest in tapestry and carpet techniques with different styles, which soon led him to create a new world in the weaving field. The three dimensional effect he brings out in his works as well as his beautiful colour compositions, set his weaving apart. By personally hand-weaving (without the use of machinery or tools), each of his creations reflect his emotions, making each work a unique piece. In all his works, there is a fusion of the human psyche and feathery nature.

Kurekar was appointed as a Empanelment of Designers in Govt. of India, Weavers’ Service Centre, Mumbai. He was also a member on Syllabus committee (Expert) for Textile Designing for Directorate of Maharashtra, Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai in 1997, Member on Syllabus committee (Expert) for Textile Designing for Directorate of Adult Education Department of Elementary Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi in 2002 and member on Syllabus committee (Expert) for Textile Design Degree at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad in 2003. He was also Hon. Head of Dept. at the Govt. College of Art in Aurangabad. He has had various solo and group exhibitions all over India.
